Inauguration Day 2021: Survival Magic

Updated: Aug 1

K.J. Edwards describes herself as a single mom in her mid-30s from Texas. Edwards' magical influences are varied, and pull primarily from her Irish heritage and relationship with nature. You can find Edwards on the web at HausofHighWitchery on Etsy.

The energy surrounding Inauguration Day 2021 is thick and chaotic. If you are sensitive to or in tune with energy, you may have felt it.

Though It may seem as if there is nothing you can do because the wheels of bureaucracy are out of your control, that does not have to be the case!

From cleansing and grounding to protection and binding, I will walk you through a few ways to keep your wits about you. While we may not be able to control everything around us, we can absolutely direct our intentions towards the hope-filled future that we want. Here’s how:

Cleansing and Grounding

With the state of the country right now, no one would blame you for feeling exhausted, stressed and emotional. Therefore, it is important to first take care of the energy inside you and in your personal space before casting magic outward. Below are two ways you can clear and calm this energy in your personal bubble that can be done any time, anywhere.

Cleanse your energy

A quick, easy way to cleanse is by sound. Clap your hands three times to shake up stagnant or negative energy. Whenever you start to feel the negative energy start to creep in, try clapping!

Ground yourself

Grounding is equally as simple and so important. What you need to do is slip off your shoes and socks and stand barefoot in the dirt or grass. The way this works is similar to how a charger restores power to your phone: the earth energizes you and refills your “battery”. Doing this for at least five to ten minutes a day can greatly improve your sense of calm and connectedness.

While everything surrounding this inauguration day feels chaotic, and sometimes even malevolent, spending time grounding yourself or sound cleansing can offer some sense of order.

Protection: For you and for others

Once you have taken care of your energy, you should protect it. An easy way to do this is with herbs.

All you need to do is combine rosemary, basil, marjoram and bay leaves into a small satchel or bag—this combination of herbs is known to provide protection. Keep this on or near you as much as you can during this trying time.

A great way to protect a larger number of people, at the same time, while minimizing the chance for any harm, is to bind the source. All you will need is a piece of paper, a pen, a sandwich bag, water and access to a freezer for this simple freezer binding spell.

On paper, write the name of the subject—this could be a person, a place or an event.

Outloud you will say the following, “This represents (subject’s name) and the harm (subject) inflicts on others. I bind you now.” Place the paper in the bag, then fill the bag until the paper is covered. Place the bag in the freezer and forget about it!

Hope Spell for Inauguration Day 2021

It is important that we put out positive intentions right now and manifest hope.

Lighting a white candle is a simple and easy way to focus your intention. Use a toothpick or safety pin to carve into the candle your positive intention. Envision a future in which things are healthier and more positive and less toxic. How does this future make you feel? Hold the candle between your palms and concentrate on what you want to have happen, then light the candle and allow it to burn all the way down.

Whether you’re grounding and cleansing, casting protective spells or binding, I hope you feel more prepared and a bit more in control having read these practical tips for Inauguration Day 2021 magic.

Remember to practice self-care in the days leading up to Inauguration Day 2021, you need to make sure your battery is full and your body is healthy as it can be in these hard, but hopeful, times.
